Bringing Flexibility and Auditability to AI-Assisted Credit Analysis

OVERVIEW

Meridian is a workspace for commercial loan underwriting. Credit analysts at community and regional banks use it to turn a borrower’s financial statements into a credit decision. The Spread page is where every number in the deal lives.

GOAL

An AI-Assisted Spread Where Every Number Is Current, Sourced and Explained.

The spread is the table every ratio, memo and loan decision is built on. It should feel as flexible as Excel, with every number one click from its source.

CHALLENGES

Three Ways Today’s Tools Put Credit Decisions at Risk

01

ANALYSIS OUTSIDE THE PRODUCT LEAVES NO TRAIL

Rigid tools push analysts to Excel for its freedom, and the reasoning behind each number never makes it back.

02

DECISIONS BUILT ON OUTDATED NUMBERS

Borrowers resubmit documents mid-deal, and nothing shows which analysis still runs on the old numbers.

03

AI THAT CAN’T BE AUDITED

AI that hides its reasoning or overstates its confidence can’t be defended to a credit committee or regulator.

SOLUTIONS

Balancing Analyst Freedom With Bank-Level Traceability

01

Designing Around the Spreadsheet Patterns Analysts Already Know

Excel-style Toolbar

Status Bar Totals

= Quick Calc

Custom Formulas

Grouped Edit Reasons

The spread borrows Excel’s familiar habits and adds a record of every change.

IMPACT

One workspace, no lost reasoning

Every edit keeps its reason, so the analyst’s thinking can always be traced.

02

Flagging Every Out-of-Date Number for Review

Re-Check Card

Restatement Review

Saved Versions

Policy Update Review

Changed numbers wait for an analyst’s decision instead of updating silently.

IMPACT

Downstream changes made visible

Meridian shows everywhere a changed number was used, which cuts cognitive load and keeps stale figures out of the memo.

03

Holding Every Source-Linked AI Suggestion for Analyst Approval

Source Links

Pending Until Reviewed

Analyst Approval

AI Activity Log

Every amount traces back to its source, and AI suggestions wait for an analyst to accept them.

IMPACT

Audit-ready by default

Every decision shows its source and approver, so the bank can audit it.
